The stigma around mental illness and substance use has often discouraged and prevented individuals from seeking treatment. The impact of that stigma can vary based on one's community and culture. However, the stigma or lack of information on mental and behavioral health issues results in young people not reaching their potential. More tragicaly, most youth who commit suicide have a mental health condition that has been untreated.

What is our goal?
The focus on HCHY Gurnee-Warren Township is to create a community that encourages the healthy growth and development of its children. Our goal is that every child or teen struggling with such issues as depression, anxiety, substance abuse or ADHD find the help that they need.

How are we working towards this goal?
HCHY Gurnee-Warren Township has existed for nearly 15-years and forcused on building the assets needed for the healthy development of children. Helping our community to better address mental health risks and concerns in children and young adults begins with education and eliminating barriers to getting help. We believe that stigma and a lack of information continue to be the greatest barries. HCHY, working with other community partners, will work to promote an atmospher that encourages children and parents to seek when it's needed.
